How To Keep Your Home Safe During COVID-19

Countries are trying all measures to keep the deadly Coronavirus at bay. The least we can all do to contribute is by maintaining hygiene, not only by washing hands and using a sanitizer every few hours but also by keeping our devices, appliances and home clean and free from germs…

Keep The Air Filter Clean

Limit The Use of Air Conditioner
Since the use of air conditioner is the highest during summer, it is recommended that you get the indoor unit coils inspected and keep the air filter clean, as the virus survives for a longer duration in AC rooms. Try and limit the use of AC and keep the windows open for sunlight and fresh air to enter the room. This will help the tiny droplets released from the nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze to dry fast and prevent it from spreading further.

Maintain Hygiene at Home

Apart from regularly cleaning your hands with an alcohol-based sanitizer or hand wash, it’s also important that you keep your devices clean, especially those that are regularly used like your smartphone, laptop, tablet, digital camera and headphones. You could use disinfectant wipes to clean your phone, which are easily available online. Apple has also said that similar products with 70 per cent isopropyl alcohol can be used to ‘gently’ clean iPhones and other gadgets to keep them free of dust, germs and fingerprints.

If not, you could dip a microfibre cloth in a solution of diluted dish soap to thoroughly clean the devices. Once cleaned, keep them covered in a case / bag for as long as possible. Do not forget to unplug and switch off your device before you clean them. Similarly, you can keep your home appliances clean too. Remember, prevention is key!

Air Purifiers Can Be Useful Too

Air Purifiers Can Be Useful Too
Air purifiers help prevent the spread of viruses and germs at home. Air purifiers clean the air of viruses, bacteria, particles, microorganisms, chemicals, and odor. While some experts reveal that the best way to improve indoor air quality is to keep the windows open, this may not be an option for those with suffering from asthma or other seasonal allergies. In such cases, air purifiers, especially when set at high fan speeds for a longer duration, can help improve air quality. If you don’t have an air purifier, the simplest way to keep air clean is to open the windows and allow fresh air in the room.

Schedule a Maintenance Check For Your Water Purifier

Schedule a Maintenance Check For Your Water Purifier
Although the World Health Organization has stated that the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water yet, we still suggest you get a maintenance check done for your water purifier if it wasn’t done in the last 6 months. To ensure good health for you and your loved ones, it’s important that the filter is cleaned once every six months and the filters are changed periodically, as the contaminants from water begin to clog the filters with usage. If you don’t regularly get the filters changed, it can affect the quality of water, as the impurities are transferred to the water you consume. For more information on water purifiers, click here.
