What is the difference: Convection Oven vs Conventional Oven?

Let’s first define what a Convection Oven is and what a Conventional Oven is, then we will discuss the pros and cons of each one.

A convection oven is an oven that heats food with two heating elements as well as has a fan that helps to circulate air around the food.

A conventional oven is an oven that heats food with only two heating elements and does not have a fan.

Pros of a Convection Oven:

  • Food cooks faster due to the circulated air
  • Ability to cook multiple dishes at one time on multiple racks

Cons of a Convection Oven:

  • Adjustments of recipes and cook times 
  • Typically more expensive than conventional ovens

Pros of a Conventional Oven:

  • Most recipes are created with directions that relate to conventional ovens, so directions can be followed exactly.
  • Less expensive than convection ovens

Cons of a Conventional Oven:

  • Longer cooking times in comparison to the convection oven.
  • Only able to cook one dish at a time
